Until today, Gareth Bale had never had the chance to grace a major tournament.
But the Real Madrid winger made the most of Wales' European Championship bow with a free-kick to help them to a 2-1 win over Slovakia in Bordeaux.
Bale had four shots, with all but one from outside the box and as the Opta graphics show, his shooting was extremely efficient from all ranges:
But he was also good at getting the ball back from the Slovakian side. The Opta graphic below shows the number of recoveries he made during the match - where he won back the ball after it has been lost:
Five recoveries for a player in his free attacking role was impressive, although his team-mate Joe Allen led the way in ball recoveries for Wales with 10 during the match.
