Republic of Ireland centre-half Shane Duffy has spoken of his disappointment with how he was at fault on Sunday evening for Moldova's goal in the World Cup qualifier in Chisinau.
Speaking to Off the Ball's Dave McIntryre, the Brighton defender said a "silly mistake" between himself and Ciaran Clark, let the Moldovans equalise just before half-time, in a match Ireland went on to win 3-1.
"1-0 at half-time, we would have been well in control in the game. It was a silly mistake from me and Clarky".
He hopes the error will become a thing of the past, as he continues to cement his place in the Ireland starting 11. The Derry native has started four of Ireland's last five competitive games, missing the away match in Serbia due to suspension.
"I don't want to keep saying; 'I want to learn from them', because I don't want to keep making them. It's becoming a bad habit."
Duffy said the mistake, which allowed Igor Bugaiov score, could have happened in any game, due to an error in judgement.
"A minute to go, I should have dropped off and seen it through. I dont want to say it's experience. It's a natural football mistake. I could have made that on Saturday, I could have made it in The Championship. It was the decision-making I got wrong."
Ireland earned six points from six, in the October double-header, but Duffy told Dave McIntryre, he will return to Brighton with a sense of regret over his performance in Chisinau.
"I know we won, but I'm disappointed. I was still quite happy with how I played in the game. I thought I was quite solid and nothing really got the better of me. Just for one decision, where I've gambled and I shouldn't have. In a way I'm lucky it was against lesser opposition."
He wont have to wait too long to try and banish those demons on the international stage. Ireland play Austria on November 12th in Vienna.
