Shane Duffy on the Play-Offs: "We believe in that group that we can beat anyone"

Republic of Ireland defender Shane Duffy expects his international teammates to fear no one when the draw for the World Cup Play-Offs takes place next week.

The defender was speaking to Off the Ball after his Brighton team drew one-all with Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

He was taken off early as a precaution, saying afterwards: "It's just a little pain in my groin. I probably wanted to stay on but...the manager didn't want to make it any worse so I just had to come off.

"It would have been a great week if we had topped it off with a win but it wasn't to be and it's a bit disappointing today we couldn't see it out but listen, we've got to take the positives."

Looking ahead to the play-off draw which is due to take place on Tuesday, he said: "We fancy ourselves against anyone even if it is the Italians or anyone - we'll fancy it.

"Everyone will write us off but we believe in ourselves...we believe in that group that we can beat anyone and as I said, a lot write us off before games but we always come back.

"It's (the World Cup) the biggest of the biggest and the manager keeps mentioning that it is the biggest and we want to get there and every player wants to play at the top level and the opportunity to play in an World Cup doesn't come around too often", he added.
