Ten years after departing Sligo Rovers, life at Everton is becoming increasingly difficult for Ireland's Seamus Coleman.
Suffering a horrendous leg-break during a World Cup qualifier against Wales in 2017, Coleman's return to club action has been marred somewhat by the after effects. The source of some frustration for a section of Everton's fans, Mark Lawrenson believes that the Irishman's career may simply have shifted onto a downward tilt.
"It comes to everybody, in the end," Lawrenson explained when considering the potential for Matt Doherty to increase the pressure on Coleman within the Irish set-up.
"For Seamus, it's 'Father Time' I'm afraid, so, he's just basically got to get on with it.
"Obviously it's really, really difficult when you've been such a wonderful player."
Left out of the starting XI for the visit of Leicester City to Goodison Park this afternoon, an abject 1-0 defeat for Everton will have come with an irritating caveat for Ireland's captain.
Although Marco Silva will undoubtedly have questions to answer in the wake of the loss, the impressive performance of 21-year-old Jonjoe Kenny could spell trouble for Coleman.
Taking the Irishman's role in the team for today's game, Kenny, contrary to the issues a section of Everton's fan-base have taken up with Coleman, is a product of the club's academy who will certainly have the best wishes of Everton's fans tied up.
Lawrenson, speaking on Premier League Live on Today FM, ultimately reiterated that "it's life, and [Coleman] will have to get on with it."
Although the Irish full-back may not quite believe himself to be at as low an ebb as the former Liverpool and Ireland defender believes, the pressure is now on as to whether he can regain his position at club level.
