WATCH: Sam Allardyce reacts as West Brom hold Liverpool to a draw at Anfield

Sam Allardyce is back in the Premier League and although his first game with his new West Brom side might not have gone to plan, his first trip to Anfield with the Baggies was sweet.

The big man provided yet another shock on Merseyside, coming away with a point after drawing 1-1 with the champions on Sunday evening.

Allardyce was the last manager to beat Liverpool at Anfield in the league when he was Crystal Palace boss back in 2017.

However, not many predicted the Reds would drop points here; with 24 points between the sides going into the game and the visitors in the relegation zone.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Allardyce explained what he saw unfold at Anfield over the course of 90 minutes.

"I think really good organisation and a team trying their very best to nullify the best team in this league, on their own patch. What a fantastic job they did.

"It's all about staying in the game when you come here. Not opening up too much and allowing Liverpool to breeze through you and win 3,4,5, nil.

"We kept that tight ship going for a long period of time which I thought was very good considering we went a goal down so early on in the game but the resilience of the side gave us an opportunity to create more in the second half. "

West Brom remain in the relegation zone with the result, with just 8 points out of a possible 45.

They have a scrap on their hands if they want to stay up, but they've they've the right man in charge to try and attempt it.

He said he feels his players want it too and are up for the challenge.

"I think that the lads have shown a lot of grit and determination, a lot of organisation, they've shown team spirit at a very difficult place - they fought for each other.

"Matt Phillips was captain today, he seemed to be inspired by being captain which is nice to see.

"I see the players telling me they really want to try and stay in this division. I haven't been here long, I don't know them that well but I saw a lot of guts, a lot of determination and ultimately for the goal, a lot of quality."
