Sam Allardyce says retrospective bans for simulation is "utter rubbish"

Sam Allardyce has described the FA's introduction of retrospective bans for those found guilty of simulation as "utter rubbish".

The former England boss, who helped steer relegation threatened Crystal Palace to safety this year, says that more money should be spent on technology and that incidents of suspected simulation should be addressed during the match.

Asked what he thought of the proposal this afternoon ahead of Sunday's game with Manchester United he replied: "Rubbish."

He continued: "Well, it's utter rubbish. Because, what about the lad that gets booked that didn't dive. What are they going to do with that?

"They're going to say 'that's unlucky, next time we'll try and get that right'. So the lad that dived gets punished, but the lad that gets punished when he didn't dive, that the referee punishes, they're going to have to reverse that."

Allardyce did offer some solution to the problem, suggesting that a sin bin system might work in these cases.

"Bring technology in and we can look at it on the day. And then bring a sin bin in so we can put him in the sin bin for 10 minutes and put him back on.

"Stop paying all these people money to do rubbish situations in the game. It's utter rubbish."

A win for Crystal Palace this weekend could see them finish 11th in the table, which would see an increased prize money of £3.8m from their current spot in 13th. A current finish would see them earn £15.2m, while an 11th place end to the season would see them earn £19m.
