Everton manager Ronald Koeman has hinted that he is not best pleased with the amount of football James McCarthy played with Ireland during the international break.
The midfielder hasn't featured for the Premier League side since August.
Having been in a doubt in the build-up, McCarthy started in both 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Moldova in the past week.
Koeman says he is not sure if he'll be fit for Saturday's game at Manchester City and feels the player has been "over-loaded".
"[With] James McCarthy, it's a little bit more difficult because he was, of course, after 5-6 weeks out of football after his surgery, I know he played the full game after three group sessions with Ireland and then he played the second game and is massively over-loaded and we have to make a decision tomorrow if he's really fit to be part of the team," he said.
