'To see Duff in a League of Ireland jersey would be brilliant' - Roddy Collins

It's definitely official now. Damien Duff had often intimated that he saw a future for himself in the League of Ireland before he retired, and last night he confirmed that a move home this summer is very likely as his spell in Australia ends.

"Hopefully, there will be a couple of clubs lining up to give him a job. I was quite taken aback at how genuine he seriously was about it," said ex-Shelbourne midfielder Stuart Byrne on Off The Ball's League of Ireland slot tonight.

"It would be wonderful to have him. It would be a huge coup for the league. Obviously, he's not the Damien Duff of old but if he can get himself fit, I think the PR and marketing he could bring would be fantastic."

Ex-Bohemians and Carlisle manager Roddy Collins was also in studio as always on a Tuesday night and also welcomed the news.

"There's players going to America not far off his age. It's a big story. He has said it a few times but to see him in a jersey would actually be brilliant and he's genuine about it. There's still a good bit left in him," said Roddy.

He and Stuey also reviewed the opening weekend of action in the Premier Division, starting with the biggest fixture.

"I'm really impressed with Shamrock Rovers," said Roddy as he and Stuey analysed the 1-0 win over Dublin rivals St Patrick's Athleticbefore reviewing the other games.

The lads also looked ahead to the next round of fixtures in the league.
