Robbie Keane says Steven Gerrard won't be taking his LA Galaxy captain's armband

Robbie Keane has insisted Steven Gerrard won’t be taking over as LA Galaxy captain when he arrives in the MLS.

The Ireland captain is in Dublin this week with his LA Galaxy teammates for a friendly against Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght, and yesterday Keane told reporters in Dublin that the imminent arrival of the Liverpool captain will not mean he will lose the captaincy he inherited from Landon Donovan.

"He is arriving as an addition, not as a replacement as captain," Keane said, ESPN reports.

"I have spoken to Steven and he is excited about the challenge of coming to LA Galaxy. He is going to be a great addition to our squad."

The Galaxy squad yesterday met President Michael Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin.

"It has been a couple of crazy weeks meeting President Obama and then our own President, but we are looking forward to the end of this week and the [friendly] game against Shamrock Rovers," added Keane.
