Robbie Keane is struggling to adjust to his new role as a substitute on the LA Galaxy team, according to his manager.
Keane was forced to watch from the sidelines as his side overcame Colorado Rapids in the first leg of a Western Conference semi-final at the weekend. This marked the second consecutive game in which Keane was largely absent. He was awarded eight minutes of game time and although he played earlier in the week, he was drafted in as cover for Alan Gordon who was substituted with a hip injury.
Gordon was promoted to a place in the starting 11 while Keane was nursing groin and hip flexor injuries. Galaxy manager Bruce Arena said that Gordon's performances deserve to be rewarded with further opportunities to start ahead of Keane whose contract expires at the end of the season.
"He (Keane) was coming back from injury and, having a team that played a good game on Wednesday, I decided not to change the line-up. Alan Gordon has played well and deserved to get the start. I can promise you Robbie is not happy with that, but it's the way it is."
