Robbie Brady has expressed his disappointment at being ruled out of Ireland's next World Cup qualifier against Wales in March.
The midfielder, who was at left-back as the Boys in Green defeated Austria 1-0 in Vienna to go top of the qualifying group, picked up a yellow card for kicking the ball away in the second half.
As a result, he will miss the Wales match on March 24th 2017 at Aviva Stadium, though he will not be suspended when Austria visit Dublin next June.
Although, he was pleased to play his part in beating Austria, the yellow card did take the shine off it slightly.
"I'm happy and delighted with the result. It's fantastic and I'm on a high about that. On the other hand, I feel as if I'm going to miss the next game and that's very disappointing because it's a massive game in the group. I don't like missing any games as it is and being a part of every game is special for me," he told Newstalk's Nathan Murphy after the match.
With 10 points collected from a possible 12 so far in the qualifying group, Ireland have put themselves in a strong position in the race to go to Russia for the next World Cup in under two years.
Brady feels the win in Vienna could be one of the moments Ireland can look back on with pride if qualification is secured.
"It feels massive. With the year we've had and the stepping stone to where we want to be, this is a fantastic moment and hopefully it'll stand to us now in qualifying for the World Cup," he said.
"If we can manage that, this will be a memorable night to look back on. I thought the lads were excellent tonight and we did what we needed to do."
