Rio Recap: Adam Peaty dominates in the pool for Great Britain

Great Britain's Adam Peaty created even more history in the swimming pool overnight, winning the 100-metres breaststroke final in Rio de Janeiro.

The 21-year-old broke the World Record for the second time in two days to win his first Olympic medal in a time of 57.13 seconds. In his three races in Brazil, he has swam the three quickest 100-metre breaststrokes in history.

Michael Phelps began his fifth Olympic campaign with his 19th Olympic gold medal. The American was part of the 4x100 metre freestyle relay team that defeated France and pre-race favourites Australia.

19-year-old Katie Ledecky smashed the 400-metre freestyle World Record as she won here second Olympic gold medal, after winning in London four years ago. Ledecky finished almost five seconds ahead of the field, with Great Britain's Jazzmin Carlin winning silver.

It was a night of shocks at the Olympic tennis tournament. Novak Djokovic was knocked out in the first round of the men's tournament. The Serbian lost to former US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro 7-6 7-6 on Centre Court.

In the women's doubles, three-time champions Serena and Venus Williams were knocked out in the first round. The American duo lost to the Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova.

Andy Murray and brother Jamie were also knocked out of the men's tournament. The Scottish duo were defeated by Brazil's Andre Sa and Thomaz Bellucci 7-6 7-6.

In football, Brazil are potentially one game from being knocked out of the men's tournament. Neymar and co drew 0-0 with Iraq in Brasilia. The team are now on two points after two games, and need to beat Denmark on Wednesday, or risk being eliminated from the tournament.
