Rio Ferdinand tells Manchester United to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Rio Ferdinand that Manchester United would do well to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin to bolster their attacking options.

With the club looking to add to their forward line, with the likely departure of Edinson Cavani and the questionable form of Anthony Martial, Ferdinand believes the England striker could be a great addition.

"I have watched a lot of Everton this year and he is one that unnerves defenders," Ferdinand told his Five YouTube channel.

"He is not one you want to play against week in, week out. He is aggressive, he attacks the ball.

"I was speaking to Carlo Ancelotti earlier this year and he mentioned [Pippo] Inzaghi and said he didn’t need many chances to score goals and he scores goals in and around the six yard box.

"I look at Calvert-Lewin this season and he has listened to that, he has taken that on board. Obviously, he seems a real good student of the game and he has started putting that into his own game.

"We have seen the rewards he has had, he has got into the England squad by scoring loads of goals in and around the six yard box, scoring those ugly goals. I think he would be a fantastic signing for Manchester United.

"It’s one out of leftfield a little bit but I think he would have a big impact. He would get on the end of the things created by Fernandes, Pogba, [Marcus] Rashford, [Mason] Greenwood, etc."

With United having been linked to both Harry Kane and Erling Braut Haaland, Calvert-Lewin might be the - slightly - reduced cost option.
