Reports: Rising tension between Solskjaer and De Gea

David De Gea's Manchester United future is increasingly in doubt amid growing tension with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

According to a report in the Manchester Evening News, the relationship between De Gea and Solskjaer has become a 'problem’ over recent weeks and months.

The report explains that Solskjaer intended to drop De Gea for Dean Henderson as early as the visit of West Brom back in November but when the Spaniard was informed, he reacted so unhappily that Solskjaer restored the Spaniard to the side.

A similar incident occurred when Henderson was in line to start against Chelsea in February but De Gea expressed his dismay and Solskjaer once again decided to start him over Henderson.

After that Chelsea game, De Gea then missed the next four games to be present for the birth of his daughter in Madrid, a request that was approved by Solskjaer.

Significantly though, Henderson was selected over more experienced Spaniard for the Premier League win over Brighton on Sunday.

"With Dean and David's situation, I know it’s something that will create headlines but I've got two great goalkeepers and it’s about now finding games that both will play in," Solskjaer said after the Brighton game in an effort to play down the situation.

"Obviously not the same game, of course. But both of them deserve to play more than what they do and it’s a decision I have to make every time."

The situation is a significant headache for Solskjaer moving forward as De Gea is United’s highest earner on £375,000-a-week while Henderson also signed a new five-year contract in August and is on £125,000 weekly wages.

The Manchester Evening News report states that there is a "growing feeling" that United will have to sell one of their main goalkeepers in the summer.
