Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek has supposedly said his goodbyes to his Ajax teammates amid reports that he will be joining Manchester United for a reported fee of €40 million.
While the focus of Manchester United's transfer activity this summer appears to be focused on the acquisition of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, various reports have linked Ole Gunnar Solskajer's side with a move for the Ajax midfielder.
Van De Beek scored 10 goals in 37 appearances for the Dutch Eredivisie side last season and he's also a target for Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid.
Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated that United have been in contact with Van De Beek's agents and that the Dutch midfielder has been scouted by the club for many months.
The Guardian have also stated that Van De Beek was not involved in Ajax's recent friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt due to recent "developments."
Ajax have excellent relationship with Manchester United - they already know how much Man Utd are interested in Donny van de Beek. But they’re still waiting for an official bid to be submitted. Barcelona are so quiet by weeks on VdB. 🔴 #MUFC #Ajax #transfers

“There are indeed developments that keep him out of the selection. We will see what happens. We’ll make an announcement as soon as there’s some clarity. The fact that Donny did not play does indicate a direction. The request not to let him play did not come specifically from one side. We do that together. Agreements have been made about a possible transfer, and if that possibility arises you must also cooperate," said Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.
No official bid has been lodged yet but it's understood that the player is keen on a move to the Premier League.
United have also been linked with moves for Thiago Alcantara and Jack Grealish during the transfer window.
The addition of the versatile Van De Beek might solve a problem for Solskjaer after Paul Pogba's recently tested positive for COVID-19.
United start their Premier League campaign September 19th when Solskjaer's side host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
