Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Silva has been forced to retire from football after failing a medical at Sporting Lisbon due to heart problems.
The 23-year-old signed from Cruzeiro in 2015 but he failed to made an immediate impact at the Santiago Bernabeu resulting in a loan spell at Marseille.
He was set to go on loan again this season but failed the medical that would have cleared the way for the move. He has since been advised to retire from the game due to the problems with his heart.
Seen as a potential long-term solution to Real's defensive midfield problems, Silva has had his career cut short well before his prime.
