Ralf Rangnick agrees deal to become Manchester United interim manager | reports

Manchester United are believed to have reached a deal to bring Ralf Rangnick to the club as interim manager until the end of the season.

The Athletic reports Old Trafford chiefs have come to an agreement with the German.

They say he'll sign a six-month contract until the end of the season.

He will then remain on for two years in a consultancy role.

Currently employed as head of sports and development at Lokomotiv Moscow, Rangnick is highly regarded across Europe.

He has had spells in charge of a number of German clubs, including VfB Stuttgart and Hannover 96.

He was also at Schalke twice, and has earned the title of 'Godfather' of modern German football.

His also had a sting as Director of Football with Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig, during which time both clubs made significant progress.

He only signed a three-year deal with Lokomotiv Moscow in the summer of this year, but now appears set for a move to Manchester.

Most recently, Rangnick was linked to a role with Newcastle following their Saudi-led takeover.

Michael Carrick is currently in charge of Manchester United on a temporary basis.

It's believed he is likely to remain in charge for this weekend's clash with Chelsea, as Rangnick waits on a work permit.

The club has said that it intends to appoint a permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer next summer.
