Pochettino not guaranteeing long term Dele Alli stay at Tottenham

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says he can't definitively promise fans that the club won't sell Dele Alli.

The attacking midfielder retained the Professional Footballers' Association's Young Player of the Year award this week.

He has scored 20 goals for Spurs this season, building on an excellent 2015-16 campaign.

Pochettino says he can't predict what will happen, but hopes supporters trust him and the club.

"I cannot guarantee anything in life," he said.

"It's important to be focused on the present and not to think too much on the future. In the future, we will take the best decision for the club. Our decisions at the moment and so far are good."

Alli scored on Saturday in a thriller in the FA Cup semi final as London rivals Chelsea beat them 4-2 at Wembley.

Spurs will now focus on trying to reel back the Blues who hold a four point lead at the top of the Premier League table with six matches to go for both teams.

Pochettino recently expressed his surprise that Alli did not make the shortlist for PFA Player of the Year, saying, ""There are better players now and it's a better standard. In my opinion he deserved a place in the shortlist.

"After his first season, people wanted to him perform again in his second season. He's not only confirmed that – he's improved in all aspects in his game."
