Former Everton midfielder Pat Nevin believes frailties on the flanks are among the problems for the club this season.
In the mix for the Top Four last season, the Toffees are down in the bottom half so far.
Pat joined us on Off The Ball and picked out a number of problem areas and concerns.
"The big problems, number one is the full-backs. They were the strength in the team beforehand. [Coleman and Baines] are not getting forward. The wingers they've got playing outside them, they don't link. So they've not got linking players in front of them. That's a big problem for Everton. Lukaku needs to work harder. Barry has shown big signs of slowing down. And of course, they've had a few injuries as well," said Pat, who added that the Toffees are missing "Pienaar more than anyone else" because of his creativity and telepathic relationship with Leighton Baines.
He also looked at why Aiden McGeady and Seamus Coleman have not been linking up effectively on the pitch.
We were also joined by former Everton winger Kevin Kilbane on the Football Show to discuss the Toffees' plights and he also looked at the inconsistent form of Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku in terms of the knock on effects for the rest of the team.
Meanwhile, Pat also chatted about Everton's conqueror's Newcastle who are set to wave manager Alan Pardew goodbye ahead of a potential move to Crystal Palace.
He thinks the Magpies need to think outside the box when it comes to replacing Pardew.
"Hopefully, it's not just a big ex-Newcastle name. Don't go there. You've done that before. It's boring, it's been done and doesn't work very well. Think outside the box a wee bit," he said.
Pat also gave his take on whether Raheem Sterling's move into the Liverpool forward line will become permanent or if he will return to the deeper and wider roles that he is more used to.
He also analysed Simon Mignolet's stark dip in form in the Liverpool goal.
