One of the more amusing sights from the weekend's Premier League action came from the Everton vs Bournemouth thriller on Saturday.
It wasn't some of the comedy defending - particularly from Bournemouth - but Everton's sixth and final goal from the 6-3 win at Goodison Park.
After surging past the Cherries goalkeeper Artur Boruc and with an opening goal gaping, all Ross Barkley needed to do was caress the ball into the back of the net.
He did do that eventually. But first he put his arms out to celebrate his goal prematurely before putting the ball in the net before a backtracking defender could intervene.
It was relatively harmless although premature celebrations do have a habit of going wrong sometimes, leaving the person involved looking not too smart.
For ex-Chelsea and Ireland defender Paddy Mulligan, such an eventuality would have been karmic for Barkley.
"I was hoping that somehow or another that the ball was going to veer off far too wide to his right or that he was going to slip or just fall because he shouldn't be doing stuff like that," he told Newstalk.com.
"It's disrespectful even if I found it very funny. But it's disrespectful to the opposition as well instead of just sticking the ball into the back of the net and getting the job finished. But celebrating beforehand, I just wished he'd tripped himself up and that would have been just absolutely brilliant. It would have made my weekend!"
Paddy added that he has never seen a player celebrating a goal before scoring whether it's in training or in a match and has a task for Barkley's team-mates.
"What he did, he should be reminded of every day in training. Whenever they're training, a few of the lads should go on the same run that he went on and really show him how stupid it looked," said Paddy.
