REVEALED: Team OTB's Premier League predictions revisited

The 2019/20 Premier League campaign is one that will go down in history. The league took an extended break due to Covid-19 and Liverpool ended their 30-year wait for a title.

Before it all began, we asked 23 members of team OTB to make their predictions.

We can now revisit those predictions from August 2019 to see how we we fared.

Champions

Five out of 23 correctly predicted that Liverpool would end their drought for a title. Well done to Emma Carroll, Sue Murphy, Neil Treacy, Nathan Murphy and Adrian Barry for foreseeing the Reds' success.

17 others thought that Pep Guardiola would lead his Manchester City side to a third consecutive crown. One lone voice believed that Tottenham Hotspur would claim the title.

Top-Four

The battle for Champions League football went down to the final day of the season. Manchester United beat Leicester City to claim third place and Chelsea defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers to finish in fourth.

Spurs were picked by all 23 of team OTB to finish in the leading quartet but they ended up in sixth. This means that nobody got all four teams that finished in the top-four correct.

Premier League

Nine people got three out of four while 14 people got two out of four right.

Relegation

The fight for Premier League survival also went down to the final day. Aston Villa stayed up while Watford and Bournemouth were relegated along with Norwich City.

16 people correctly predicted that Norwich would go down but nobody in team OTB thought that either Watford or Bournemouth would go down.

Brighton were picked by 18 people to go down but they defied their doubters. 13 selected Sheffield United to go straight back down to the Championship but Chris Wilder's side finished in a remarkable ninth place.

Top goalscorer

Jamie Vardy claimed the Premier League golden boot, finishing the season on 23 goals, ahead of both Danny Ings and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who each notched 22 goals.

Premier League

None of our team picked the Leicester man as top goalscorer with Harry Kane, Mo Salah and Sergio Aguero the most popular choices.

Special mention though for Christian Crawford, Thom Malone and Richie McCormack who all picked Aubameyang and just missed out.

First manager sacked

There were a total of seven in-season managerial dismissals this term with Watford responsible for three of them.

Richie McCormack correctly predicted that Javi Gracia would be the first manager sacked. The Spaniard was sacked by Watford after just four games of the season.

The most popular prediction to win the sack race was Roy Hodgson as nine people thought he would be the first manager to go. Six thought it would be Graham Potter while four thought it would be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Player of the year

Jordan Henderson was named the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year on Friday.

Premier League

None of team OTB correctly predicted that the Liverpool captain would win the award with Raheem Sterling the most common selection.

Seven thought it would be Sterling while five went for Kevin De Bruyne and three for Bernardo Silva.
