'It was reminiscent of the last weeks of the Roberto Mancini regime'

Every Premier League manager has doubt poured over them like lava at some point in their careers.

At the moment, Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is the one standing on top of a high pressure volcano of scrutiny after consecutive 2-1 defeats to Barcelona and Liverpool, both of which have heavily dented their domestic and Champions League hopes.

Mark Ogden of The Telegraph drew parallels with the dying embers of Pellegrini's predecessor in the Etihad hotseat.

"It was reminiscent of the last weeks of the Roberto Mancini regime," he said on Off The Ball tonight.

"You just look at that Man City squad and they should have won more than they have done. When you see them in the Champions League, they feel that they don't belong there. They don't have that same sense of unity that Liverpool had in 2005, or United in 2008 and '99. There's something missing for City."

Ogden is not optimistic that Pellegrini will be able to draw more out of the current team, although he believes that the Chilean has adapted stylistically to the Premier League more quickly than Louis van Gaal.

"But he doesn't seem to change his tactics when they play better teams. Liverpool away, that was a suicidal tactic . You have to show Liverpool more respect. City are too open against the good teams," said Ogden, adding that Pellegrini won last year's title in a weak season for the league and said that he does not see the former Villarreal and Real Madrid boss as a "Grade A" manager.
