Odegaard set to complete permanent Arsenal move after fee agreed

Arsenal are set to bring Norwegian midfielder Martin Odegaard back to the club, this time on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old is reportedly having a medical with the club ahead of a return to the Emirates Stadium, after Arsenal and Real Madrid agreed a £30m fee.

Odegaard spent the second half of last season at Arsenal, where he played 14 times in the Premier League, as well as six times in the Europa League, scoring two goals in the process.

It would end Odegaard's six years at Real Madrid, where he was never able to establish himself in the first team, making just eight La Liga appearances, and spending much of his time out on loan.

He impressed manager Mikel Arteta during his cameo at Arsenal last season, with the manager stating his interest in making that deal permanent at the time.

Odegaard will now complete a medical and agree personal terms, before becoming Arteta's fourth signing of the summer after Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares.

And with Odegaard vaccinated against Covid-19 he will not need to quarantine upon entering the UK, meaning he could be available for selection for their Premier League meeting with Chelsea this weekend if he is registered by Friday. The Gunners were beaten 2-0 by newly promoted Brentford on their season-opener last Friday night.
