Antonio Conte eased the pressure on his position as Chelsea manager today, as his team ran out convincing 3-0 winners over champions Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.
Earlier this week, two bookmakers suspended betting on the Italian boss to be the next manager to leave his post in the Premier League, but his players produced a performance of the highest quality to take the spotlight off the former Italy national team coach.
Goals from Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Victor Moses ensured that the home side would pick up all three points and moved tied for third for a few hours at least.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Hazard agreed that the performance was one of their best of the season.
"I think the game against Burnley was also," the Belgian said. "Today we did everything, we created a lot of chances and we scored three great goals.
"We didn't concede and for us after the [inter]national [break], it's always good to be back to get three points today."
Diego Costa opened the scoring in the first half after he peeled away from Wes Morgan in the penalty area and slotted home from six yards, completely unmarked. Leicester were once again exposed whilst trying to defend a corner, a problem that had cost them dearly against Manchester United three weeks ago.
N'Golo Kante was in sparkling form for the home side, his defensive capability in the Chelsea midfield highlighted what Leicester were missing when they conceded their second before the break.
A long ball broke in midfield and was poked toward the Leicester defence. Hazard latched onto the loose ball, rounded Kasper Schmeichel and kept his shot low to double their advantage.
"For me it was a special game," Kante said after the game. "Last season I enjoyed in Leicester and to play against them is special.
"I'm happy to win because I'm a Chelsea player and it's good for us. We got the three points and that's important for us."
Moses rounded off the scoring in the second half with the pick of the bunch. He played a neat one-two with Nathaniel Chalobah, who back-heeled the ball into the box and Moses fired past the Danish netminder.
