The hugely successful Football Manager series, which allows users to simulate managing a football team by signing players and employing custom tactics, will feature Brexit in its latest instalment.
The game, released this November, will force users to deal with the fallout from Britain's exit from the European Union and may impact on managers' ability to sign non-UK players in the future.
Miles Jacobson, head of the team behind the game, says that a Brexit simulator has been included in the 2017 version of the game and that the political shift was just too important to leave out.
"We usually try and keep politics out of the game because nobody wants it rammed down their throat," Jacobson told The Telegraph.
"But we were left with an interesting situation this year when the people of Britain voted to leave the EU and it wouldn’t have felt right to leave that out. It’s something we had to reflect in the game. So we sat down with the research guys and started to plan how we might put it in."
Between two and 10 years into the game, players will be alerted of trade negotiations have begun regarding Brexit.
A news bulletin will then be sent out a year later to detail the extent of the effect on the game. The simulation will revolve around three main outcomes.
The first is a Soft Brexit, where the free movement of workers will remain in place. Another scenario will be that footballers will be granted special exemptions to travel and it will mean that it will be easier for them to be granted work permits.
The nightmare scenario for gamers will be the introduction of a Hard Brexit. It will mean that similar rules will apply to those which currently apply to non-EU players. They will then be adopted for all non-UK players.
"At the moment the rules for work permits for non-EU players uses a points system and we could see similar rules for all recruitment from outside the UK," he added.
