Middlesbrough sign former Manchester City striker on season-long loan

Newly promoted Middlesbrough have continued to add to their squad ahead of the new season and former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo has become their latest signing.

Negredo will join the club on a season-long loan from Valencia, with the potential of a permanent deal next summer.

The clause, which would have to be agreed by all parties, is understood to be a fee in the region of £8.4m (€10m) for a permanent switch.

Aitor Karanka has wasted no time in integrating Negredo into his squad and the 30-year-old has travelled to meet the squad in Marbella.

Boro prepare for their new season with friendlies against Spanish club Alcorcon and Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli. They lost the first of these three pre-season games against Real Betis, going down 2-1.

Negredo scored 112 La Liga goals in 264 appearances whilst playing with Valencia, Sevilla and Almeria. He joined Manchester City from Sevilla in 2013 for more than £16m and made 48 appearances for the club scoring 23 times.
