Irish wingers James McClean and Ronan Curtis bag goals across the pond

Irish wingers James McClean and Ronan Curtis got goals in a busy day of football action across the pond.

McClean's Stoke City were involved in Saturday's only Championship game with the Derry winger's 91st-minute strike sealing a 2-0 win over Swansea.

The win brought Michael O'Neill's men to 19th in the Championship, leaving them seven points clear of the drop zone.

Speaking after the game, O'Neill praised his winger's recent form.

"James has been great. He played through a bit of a sticky patch in the first half but what James gives you is that running power in the side and he gives you everything.

"I thought he put some great balls into the box particularly in the second half, he's a little bit unlucky not to get on the end of a cross, too.

"It's pleasing for him when he gets the opportunity to go through he takes it and it was a good finish."

In the FA Cup fourth round, fellow Republic of Ireland international Ronan Curtis got a goal in Portsmouth's 4-2 win over Barnsley.

Chasing a route one ball, Curtis got the ball through the Barnsley defence before poking it past Bradley Collins in the opposing goal to nab his 12th goal of the season.

Elsewhere in FA Cup action, West Brom's 20-year-old Dara O'Shea played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win over West Ham.
