Martin O’Neill has left James McCarty out of his 27 man squad to face Gibraltar.
Martin O’Neill today announced his squad for next Saturday’s home tie with Gibraltar, cutting 10 names from the provisional squad of 37. McCarthy may still make the squad for the following game, the following Tuesday’s game away to Germany. The Everton midfielder supplied the assist to Aiden McGeady for the opening goal in Ireland's 2-1 win in the opening group game against Georgia.
McCarthy did not travel with the Everton squad to Russia for Thursday evening’s Europa League match against Krasandor. McCarthy’s Everton teammate Seamus Coleman also didn’t travel to that game but is included in the Ireland squad.
Four goalkeepers are included – Shay Given, David Forde, Rob Elliot and Kieran Westwood.
