'Maybe it's a wee bit harder when you're surrounded by not such stellar players'

As Manchester United take on Arsenal in the FA Cup, one player has been under more scrutiny than most.

And with good reason. After an encouraging start to life in the Premier League, Angel Di Maria's form has tailed off dramatically of late.

Pat Nevin joined us on Off The Ball as always on a Monday and suggested that the former Real Madrid player may have looked better surrounded by superior team-mates before joining United for a British transfer record.

"I remember watching Di Maria coming through in Portugal. He was the player I disliked most in world football for a period of time because he was the most common diver that there was. It was outrageous. But he got rid of a lot of it when he went to Real," he said.

"He improved, he stood on his feet but I think he had a fantastic, magical time there. Having watched him closely in Portugal, he was a very good player, he was okay. But not world class and not the guy we're talking about for all that massive amount of money. Is there a possibility that he had a golden little period, playing with some golden players, and maybe it's a wee bit harder when you're surrounded by not such stellar players that he had at Real?"
