Police investigating Maradona's death search doctor's office

Argentine police have searched the home and office of Diego Maradona's doctor as part of an investigation into the death of the 60-year-old.

The Associated Press reported that investigators could be seen around the premises of neurologist Dr. Leopoldo Luque in Buenos Aires’ Belgrano neighborhood.

Investigators were trying to secure Maradona's medical records in a bid to further understand the medical attention he received prior to his death.

Reporting by the BBC added that Maradona's doctor was being investigated for potential manslaughter, on the suspicion that his care did not match the conditions that were agreed upon his release from his clinic.

The legendary footballer died of a heart attack in Buenos Aires on Wednesday morning while he was recovering from a successful brain operation earlier this month.

Court investigators have been taking statements from those close to Maradona to get an insight into his medical state prior to his death.

The former Barcelona and Napoli number 10 was buried in a private ceremony on Thursday after lying in state at the Presidential Palace.

On Sunday, Lionel Messi – Maradona's heir as Argentina's other-worldly star – paid tribute to Maradona after scoring a trademark goal in Barcelona's 4-0 win over Osasuna in La Liga.

The Barcelona striker dribbled past two players and struck his shot into the far left corner to score his side's final goal of the game.

After celebrating with his teammates for a moment the 33-year-old removed his jersey to reveal Maradona's number 10 Newell's Old Boys shirt underneath.
