Jose Mourinho is close to completing his next signing as Manchester United manager as a summer of building title winning suqad continues.
Borussia Dortmund's Henrikh Mkhitaryan has become a chief target for the club and the German side's chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke today said that United had submitted an improved bid for the player.
It was expected that a fee in the region of £26.3 million would be enough to prise him for the 2012 Bundesliga champions, but that bid has increased to £35.2 million (€42.5m) according to reports.
"We have to evaluate this as we start our pre-season training on Monday, and we will do that at the weekend," Watzke told WAZ.
"The situation has changed – Manchester United improved their offer. In situations like this you have to see things from different points of view and in the end we will make a decision.
"I have contacted the relevant people and we will decide at the weekend. We need the opinions of different people and after that the board of directors will decide."
Mkhitaryan scored 23 times last season and his efforts helped guide Dortmund to second place in the Bundesliga.
