Manchester United v Newcastle | Martial & James start for United

Manchester United will look to reclaim second place after Leicester's win, by beating Newcastle United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side line up in the Premier League for the first time since beating Real Sociedad 4-0 on Thursday.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be joined by Nicky Butt in the dugout for tonight's game against Newcastle.

Butt and Mark Dempsey will be alongside the United boss after the club confirmed an unspecified number of their coaching team have been forced to self-isolate.

In a brief statement on their club website on Sunday, Manchester United said:

"Nicky Butt and Mark Dempsey will join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the bench this evening due to some of the coaching staff having to self isolate.

"The home Premier League game against Newcastle United at Old Trafford will kick off at 19:00 GMT."

There does not appear to be any potential danger to tonight's fixture being postponed.

Butt, a former teammate of Solskjaer's at Manchester United, has forged a notable reputation as a coach.

He is currently head of development with the club.

Mark Dempsey, meanwhile, is mostly involved with the club's academy.

He was part of Solskjaer's coaching staff at Molde in Norway, before rejoining Manchester United in 2018.

Speaking ahead of tonight's game, the United manager says it is important they get all three points after draws in their previous two outings.

"We are second, and of course your ambition then is not to end any lower than that.

"We're going to have to get a good run together if we are going to put any pressure on City."

Newcastle, meanwhile, will be keen to pick up some points as they come under pressure at the other end of the table.

Steve Bruce's charges are now just three points outside the relegation zone, with Fulham's improved form bringing them closer to safety.
