Man United season still successful without Europa League - Mourinho

Jose Mourinho says that defeat in the Europa League final will not determine the success of Man United's season.

The Premier League side booked their place in the final of the competition, following a victory over Celta Vigo last night.

The second leg tie produced a 1-1 draw, but following a nervy finish, United squeezed through the tie on a 2-1 aggregate scoreline.

They now go on to face Ajax in the final on May 24th, where a win would automatically guarantee them Champions League football next season. United are currently in sixth place on the Premier League table, which puts an added pressure on them grinding out a victory in the Europa League decider.

The United boss, however, insists that failure to win the Europa League competition will not define United's season, nor will it determine his own success in his first season at Old Trafford.

Speaking at a press conference following United's win over Celta Vigo, he said:

"I don't feel like that. I don't want the players to feel like that. I don't think the boards feel like that because we work very hard. I probably worked harder than ever this season.

"We won the League Cup, we won the Community Shield. Until the injuries arrived, we fought for the Premier League title. We did things that nobody in this club in the first season."

Mourinho also pointed out that his side have cultivated a run of 25 unbeaten Premier League games this season, although they have also registered 14 draws, which is a record high for the League.
