Manchester City are one step closer to the Premier League title with a 4-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Ilkay Gundogan missed a first-half penalty after Fabinho brought down Raheem Sterling. The subsequent spot-kick was blazed over the bar by the German, with both sides going in goalless at half time.

Gundogan made amends on 49 minutes, after Raheem Sterling had done a great deal of the work cutting in from the left, Phil Foden shot against Alisson to rebound into Gundogan's path.

Mo Salah equalised from the penalty spot for Liverpool on 63 minutes, having been fouled by City's Portuguese defender Ruben Dias.

It was absolutely a game to forget for Alisson Becker in the Liverpool goal, who twice failed to pass out successfully from the back to concede from Sterling on 76 minutes.

Alisson did the same again in the build-up to City's fourth, set up by Gabriel Jesus and finished by Phil Foden.

It means City go five points clear of Manchester United with a game in hand - on this performance, very few would be backing against them.

Phil Foden downs Liverpool

Phil Foden was awarded man of the match for a superb performance from a young player with an enormously bright future.

Foden says that he would like to play for the club for the rest of his career.

“It always helps when you play for a club you support. When I was younger, it was a dream to play for the club, so never did I think I would make it to 100 appearances so early.

Foden's been among City's top scorers this season, finding the net nine times in 27 games - he says that's due to playing higher up the pitch this term.

“I wouldn’t say I’m doing anything different this season, just playing more of an attacking role.

"In previous years, I’ve played in the middle. Now I’m out wide and you always get confidence when you score in back-to-back games.

“Sometimes you get lucky when chances fall to you. I just enjoy scoring goals and that’s what I wanted to add to my game."
