Luke Shaw defends Mourinho despite his public criticism

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw admits he deserved criticism from manager Jose Mourinho.

The England international's club boss claimed recently that the left-back lacks "commitment, focus and ambition".

However, since then, the player has started featuring more regularly recently.

Shaw told Sky Sports News that he took his place for granted when he returned from long-term injury, and wasn't meeting Mourinho's expectations.

"The criticism was very hard but I've had it before. But this time around I dealt with it better," said the player who suffered a broken leg in a Champions League group stage match against PSV Eindhoven in 2015.

"I had a really good chat with him and I totally agree with him - I will do whatever he wants."

"I've always been a hard worker but maybe, if I look back, maybe I wasn't working as hard as he likes.

"We had a really good talk and he discussed what he wanted from me and even in a week and a half I've seen a massive change in myself, not just on the pitch but off it as well.

"Now it's my time to fight until the end of the season and show the boss what I can bring to help his team."

The 21 year old Southampton academy graduate has made 17 appearances for Man United this season in all competitions, including 10 times in the league.

Three of those Premier League appearances have come in the last six weeks.
