Luis Suarez's Uruguay to play Ireland in Dublin next June

The FAI have announced that the Republic of Ireland will play Uruguay in a friendly in Dublin next summer.

The June 4th game will take place in the Aviva Stadium, and with Uruguay boasting players with the calibre of Luis Suarez, Diego Godin and Edinson Cavani, tickets are expected to sell quickly.

Winners of the 1930 and 1950 World Cups, Uruguay have played in Dublin twice, with the last game happening in 2011. The South American team won 3-2 in the Aviva Stadium with Hull City's Abel Hernandez among the scorers.

The game will come as ideal preparation for Martin O'Neill's team ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Austria a week later.

Uruguay are currently ranked ninth in the world, and look on course to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. On Thursday night, the team defeated Venezuela 3-0 and lie top of the South American qualifying group.

It is the first friendly Ireland will play against South American opposition since the 2011 match between the two team.
