Louis van Gaal did not get a second interview for Belgium job because initial meeting was "draining and exhausting”

All it took was a preliminary interview for the Belgium job for the higher-ups within the country's football federation to decide Louis van Gaal was too boring to be the coach of the national team.

According to reports, the former Manchester United manager was not given a second interview because talk of his philosophy during the initial meeting was considered "draining and exhausting”.

Many Manchester United fans complained of Van Gaal's style of play during his two years at the helm, in which he took the sting out of opponents gameplans with a possession-based, lateral passing-heavy tactic. It worked to an extent but it also neutralized many of his most attacking talents including Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial.

The Dutch manager won the FA Cup with United in his final year but ultimately will be seen as a failure given his inability to lift the club out of the post-Ferguson blues.

Belgium eventually hired Roberto Martinez, who reportedly offered a concise and intriguing outlook of how approach to football. He has since hired Thierry Henry as his assistant but they lost the first game of their tenure against a Spanish side, who appeared rejuvenated under Julen Lopetegui.
