Liverpool set to offer Jurgen Klopp a new contract after nine months in charge

After just nine months in the job, Jurgen Klopp is set to be offered a contract extension by Liverpool in the coming days.

Taking over the reigns after the club parted company with Brendan Rodgers, the German has already started to influence the style of the team, and as the summer transfer window remains open, he will also be looking to add to the squad and bring in the players that he thinks will suit that system best.

While the club's owners look set to express their confidence in him by backing his moves in the transfer market, they have also reportedly decided to double down and offer him an extension to his current contract with the team.

Liverpool-based journalist Tony Barrett took to Twitter last night to state that talks had already begun, while the BBC note that the manager's current pay may not be altered as part of any negotiations.

With Jose Mourinho taking charge at Old Trafford, Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and Antonio Conte in the hot seat for Chelsea this coming season, the biggest names in the management game are all in the Premier League, and the move looks like a preemptive strike from the club to ward off any talk about the former Bundesliga man's future.

Having lead them to the final of the UEFA Cup, despite only taking charge in October, Klopp clearly has the fans behind him at the club, and it appears that the owners are now fully on board too.
