Liverpool ordered to pay Fulham 'record fee' for Harvey Elliott

Liverpool have been informed that the fee they must pay Fulham for teenage sensation Harvey Elliott will be a record high for a 16-year-old.

Following a tribunal, Fulham were reported to be "very pleased" with the undisclosed amount awarded to them by the independent Professional Football Compensation Committee.

Signed by the Premier League champions from Fulham as a 16-year-old in 2019, Liverpool did not successfully negotiate a compensation package for Harvey Elliott at the time.

According to reports, Liverpool had initially offered £750,000 for the player while Fulham were holding out for something closer to £8,000,000.

While the final figure reached is confidential, it is believed that Liverpool have been told they must pay Fulham somewhere in the region of £4,000,000 in total for the English midfielder.

Elliott signed a three-year deal with Liverpool last year when he became eligible to do so after turning 17.

When still playing in London, he became the youngest player to feature in the Premier League, aged just 16 years and 30 days.

Speaking to OTB Sports last year, former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland midfielder Jason McAteer shared his excitement surround Elliott and what he might become.

"I'm telling you now that he will be an absolute superstar," predicted McAteer, impressed with what he has seen of Elliott on the pitch and behind closed doors. "He's only 17, but what an attitude he has.

"Harvey Elliott has been around the club now for about 18 months. Of what I've seen, I think he is an absolute superstar. He's got the lot.

"He is typically playing wide at the minute, but I can see him slotting into a more central role in that midfield area like Xavi or Andrés Iniesta would.

"I'll put my head on the line here, but if he develops the right way I think he can be as good as either of those players, and that's saying something."
