Pat Nevin believes that Mohamed Salah's form has dipped and is likely due to exhaustion from a packed domestic and international schedule.
Nevin was speaking on Off The Ball following Liverpool's 2-1 win over the weekend - a match that he feels typified the Egyptian forward's recent performances.
"Mo Salah is unrecognisable at the moment. Absolutely unrecognisable. It's Mo Salah's twin brother out there at the moment.
"I have been waiting for this to happen for a long time. He has not had a break for two summers, maybe even three."
The dip in form is such that he believes Salah's place in the side might be under threat, at a time when Liverpool face ten fixtures in December alone.
"He looked absolutely gone; knackered. I know he has a problem with his ankle, but on that [Brighton] performance, he wouldn't get a game next week.
"They need him back. They could have lost a couple of points easily. When they went down to ten men, it was absolute panic stations."
Nevin also believes that the potential of winning a Premier League title for the first time is causing the Liverpool fanbase to become tense and that that is blatant inside Anfield.
"The tension around the ground was really noticeable [when Liverpool were winning] 2-0, before the red card and before the goal.
"I know it's a cliche, but Liverpool fans know their football. They can feel it coming.
"It had been really quiet, and then they started singing. You just knew that they were thinking 'we need to help the team here'.
"It may well be that they did enough to help the team, but around Anfield - people can feel it."
