Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths appears to have taken a dig at his national boss Gordon Strachan by changing his Twitter name to "Shorty".
His actions come after Strachan talked about the need for height up front in his team, with Celtic's Griffiths repeatedly benched so far in World Cup qualifying.
The manager has been under growing pressure after poor performances against Lithuania and Slovakia.
Scotland have not qualified for a major tournament since the 1998 World Cup and missed out on an expanded Euro 2016 - the only team from the United Kingdom not to make it as England, Wales and Northern Ireland made it to France.
Scotland were in Ireland's qualifying group for the tournament but finished behind Martin O'Neill's men, Germany and Poland in the group.
They have started 2018 World Cup qualifying poorly with a 1-1 draw at home to Lithuania and a 3-0 loss in Slovakia.
Their only win from three was the 5-1 victory away to Malta in the opening qualifier.
Griffiths (26) only has only won nine Scotland caps and is 5 foot 8.
He has netted seven goals in all competitions for Celtic this season, having finished as Scottish Premiership top scorer with 31 goals last season.
Meanwhile, Scotland and Hull defender Andy Robertson is likely to miss the World Cup qualifier against England at Wembley next month after being ruled out for up to eight weeks.
The full-back was substituted during his club's 6-1 Premier League defeat by Bournemouth on Saturday with a calf problem.
Robertson had been an ever-present for Hull this season and has played two of Scotland's three qualifying matches.
