'We belong at the top' - Rodgers after emphatic Leicester victory

Leicester City made history on Friday night with the biggest ever Premier League win away from home; thrashing Southampton 9-0 at St. Mary's.

The result also equals Manchester United's 9-0 defeat of Ipswich Town at Old Trafford in March 1995 which has been the biggest winning margin in the league since then.

The hammering sends the Foxes second in the Premier League table, at least until Manchester City play Aston Villa in Saturday's lunchtime game.

Hat-tricks from Ayoze Pérez and Jamie Vardy as well as a goal each from Ben Chilwell, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison saw Brendan Rodgers' side hammer the Saints in the lashing rain of the south coast.

The 2015-16 champions now have 20 points from the first 10 games- 1 more than that glorious season.

Rodgers, who's enjoying this great run of form in his first full season at the club had nothing but praise for his side at full-time.

"Very proud of the team.

"It's a mentality that we've been trying to impose every day, to keep going and to keep pushing so to finish with nine was a remarkable effort away from home.

"I said to them at half-time, don't play young and come off and be soft and just be loose on your passing.

"Keep your tactical discipline, keep the speed in the game and we have to punish them, we have to do our job and score as many goals as we can and keep a clean sheet.

"You might have seen games like that before, where there's maybe a bit of showboating because you're comfortable in the game but we played like a proper, stayed focused, played with a purpose, we won the ball back really aggressive and then we made passes to go forward and score goals.

"It's nice to be at the top of the table, we really do want to stay there and there is confidence within the dressing room that we can stay there."
