Lee Dixon joined Off The Ball on Sunday looking back on his football career but also hoping the Premier League season is not declared null and void.
Dixon spoke about his time at Arsenal during the George Graham and Arsene Wenger reigns in a wide-ranging chat.
The subject of how the season can be completed inevitably rose its head, given how The Netherlands voided their season, Dixon doesn't see that happening in the Premier League.
"Null and Void, how can that work? I know the Netherlands have gone down that road. It just throws everything else out of kilter when you stop a season now and go, 'that's it, no sorry Liverpool, you can't have the title.' How heartbreaking would that be for them?"
"I think you have got to finish it and it looks like maybe starting behind closed doors. Obviously at some point, we have to get back and start playing again but everything has got to be safe."
"I think you have got to finish"
Dixon believes the current season has to take priority due the knock-on effects on promotion, relegation adn European qualification.
"I think everything else you can alter later. When you are in something you have to finish it off. If you didn't finish it off, when do you start back again and who do you start with?
"No relegation, then what about Leeds, what about the teams in the Championship? You are going to get lawsuits all over the place.
"I think you have got to finish, everybody has to finish, obviously Holland are not, but then you've got the roll-on effect for European games.
"It's an unprecedented position we are in, what I'm worried about when we start the Premier League again is that we have 92 clubs. I'm just talking about English football here, but we have 92 clubs that are able to function because the longer this goes on the more difficult it is for the lower leagues to survive.
"The Premier League is coming under more and more pressure to dip their hand in the pocket and go 'we're going to save football'
"The fact that it's in such an iconic position and the TV revenues have made it the global phenomenon that it is.
"It might be leading to them having to prop football up (financially) which is not ideal, but twhat are the other options?"
