Lee Chin will miss Wexford Youths playoff to attend GAA All Star Awards

Lee Chin won't be on the field as Wexford Youths play the second leg of their SSE Airtricity League promotion/relegation playoff against Drogheda.

Chin, who is an integral part of the Wexford hurling set-up, stated that he would be attending the GAA All-Star Awards in Dublin on Friday night, rather than the second leg of the decider.

The inter-county star signed with the club on a short-term deal back in September, and has already shown his worth with a stunning volley in the first leg of the playoff to give them a 2-0 lead, taking a big step towards securing their place in the Premier Division.

Posting footage of that crucial goal on Twitter, Chin stated "this is where I sign out," adding "it has been a pleasure" to get to know the squad over the past few weeks and months.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Chin said that while it has been great to be involved with the team at this crucial point of the season, he has full confidence that there's more than enough talent there to step up and take his place.

"They are a great bunch of lads. It was nice to be a part of it, to join and fight for them. I wouldn't look at myself as a huge value to the club. In my opinion, if I'm not there on Friday night there are three or four other lads who could step in off the bench and do a better job.

"The 2-0 cushion maybe makes it a little easier for me to not be there on Friday night."

Chin added that, while he was grabbing headlines for his fantastic goal, luck had a bigger role to play in it finding the back of the net than skill.

"I wouldn't have the best technique when it comes to volleys. I had put a few of those over the bar. I suppose, if I go back to where I belong you'd be getting a few scores that way. Nothing I do on a soccer pitch is intentional, to be honest!"
