Kylian Mbappe shines as Monaco win in Dortmund

Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe scored twice as the Ligue 1 sealed a valuable 3-2 away win in the Champions League quarter final first leg at Borussia Dortmund.

The newly capped French international scored in each half to continue his excellent season so far.

Mbappe gave Monaco the lead following a quick counter-attack on 19 minutes when the ball was then squared to him and he tapped in.

However, the 18 year old who has now notched 20 goals in all competitions this season, was clearly offside.

Monaco then doubled their lead 10 minutes before half time when Sven Bender headed the ball into his own net.

But Dortmund fought back in the second half with Ousmane Dembele tapping in to reduce the gap.

But a mistake from the Dortmund defence allowed the pacey Mbappe to race clear 11 minutes from time and slot in Monaco's third.

But Dortmund again showed resolve as former Manchester United attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa cut the gap to 3-2.

For the home side, the build up to the match had been very difficult after the team's bus was targeted in a bomb attack on the way to the game.

Defender Marc Bartra suffered an arm injury which required surgery as a result of the explosion.

But while match organisers postponed the original kick off time at 7.30pm Irish time last night, they then rescheduled the fixture for less than 24 hours since the worrying incident took place.
