Sometimes when a new manager comes in, getting his ideas across to the team can be instant and you can click straight away.
Jurgen Klopp has taken his time to find his feet at Liverpool and Jose Mourinho on the other side is trying to find his at Manchester United.
But you'd have to say realistically that Klopp has had an immediate impact in the sense that he's taken his side to two cup finals last season.
As for Mourinho, he's had a few problems. The Wayne Rooney issue wouldn't go away for him and the team played so much better when they dropped him for the Leicester game.
Yet the Stoke game you had someone like Paul Pogba who played so well the week before but not showing that consistency.
You kind of know what Mourinho teams do. Essentially he wants to play a 4-2-3-1 system. It can vary and he has been going with a little 4-3-3 by playing Ander Herrera at the base of the midfield so that's where the change has been to his own style.
So we know how Mourinho plays, yet he's saying that he wants attacking full-backs and wants them pushing forwards and his team to go pressing.
That's not how I've seen Mourinho's teams playing. I've seen his teams being a bit more negative, a bit reluctant to go at sides and a bit happier to contain.
But Mourinho sides have also had that devastating counter-attacking style to the game. He's got that with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and other players in the side that can do that.
It is too early to tell because of the amount of games that they've played so I think we'll judge it at Christmas and see if we have started to see the real Mourinho side or we're seeing a side that he's expected to produce because it is Man United.
I'm sure that's one of the things that would have been mentioned in his interview: "Can you produce attacking football? Can you produce the Man United way?"
That would have been said to him. Of course it's in his mind, yet he's still not going to be able to get away from the fact fundamentals that has made him the coach he is. He is the best in the world at containing teams and being able to grind out results.
In terms of Rooney potentially sitting on the bench long-term, this could unravel in a couple of ways. Is Rooney going to be happy to pick up the wages? We know he's one of the highest paid players - if not the highest paid player in England. Is he going to be happy to pick up the wages or is he going to get fed up? Having played with Wayne, I can imagine it will be that he gets fed up.
He won't like not playing and he'll want to play.
It's going to be an interesting one to see how it's going to go for him really and I'm looking forward to seeing how this one develops because it looks to me like he's not going to be playing.
Everything that's happened in the last few weeks at United has gone better. I thought they played well against Stoke. The team played well and created chances.
So you've played well in two Premier League games without having Wayne Rooney in the side so that's the only option you feel going forward now and the support in general is with Mourinho on that call. So I can't see it changing for the foreseeable future.
But overall, Man United have been at this juncture for the last number of years in terms of form. It's not been any different.
Realistically, the only thing you can say is this summer they have again thrown unbelievable amounts of money at it, having also done so under Louis van Gaal and made a couple of big-money signings like Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini under David Moyes.
So we're at this juncture again. Now, you do feel with Mourinho that he will be able to get the best out of the players that he's got there. But it's not the top end at the moment so it's still very much work in progress.
It just depends how patient the board and the supporters are going to be.
They were quite patient with Van Gaal because the signs were there very early on that it wasn't working. But they did give him the season.
I would imagine that they will do the same with Mourinho. But his history suggests that he doesn't stay around more than two or three years at any club. So that's the thing that's going to be in a lot of people's minds.
If it's not working after one year when he's normally had that immediate impact, where do you go? I'd always be in favour of giving the manager that time. But these next few months are going to be key for his whole reign.
