While praising the goal-scoring of Son Heung-Min, Tottenham's Jose Mourinho appeared to cast some aspersions on how Son's rivals for the Premier League's Golden Boot have padded their records out with penalties.
After securing a comfortable 3-0 win against Leeds United on Saturday afternoon, Jose Mourinho was quick to praise Son Heung-Min after he grabbed his 12th Premier League goal of the season.
One half of a deadly attacking duo complemented by Harry Kane, Son's goal-scoring is not done sufficient justice if Mourinho is to be believed.
"To be in the top 3 of the scorers in the Premier League without [taking] penalties," Mourinho noted in his post-match comments to Tottenham Hotspur's in-house media channel.
"Some players, you know, they score 10 goals a season on penalties [and] I'm not speaking about Harry Kane by the way. I'm so happy for Son."
It does leave one left questioning who exactly Mourinho is talking about.
One look at Son's current rivals for the Premier League's Golden Boot leads one to conclude that Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes may be on his mind.
In top spot with 13 goals, Salah has scored five of these from the spot. Two behind the Egyptian with 11 league goals, United's Fernandes has similarly scored five spot-kicks.
Joint-third along with Fernandes, six of Jamie Vardy's 11 have come as the result of Leicester City penalties.
Of those players in or around Son's scoring tally, only Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin (11 goals) is in close proximity without being on penalty duty.
