Jose Mourinho admits that pressure is getting to some Manchester United players

Jose Mourinho expressed concern for some members of the Manchester United squad today, saying that they are struggling to cope with the pressures of playing for the club.

United suffered their third consecutive defeat under the new boss following a 3-1 defeat to Watford, which leaves them six points adrift of Premier League leaders Manchester City.

This barren spell punctuates a promising start for Mourinho's side who won their first four games of the new season under him. Speaking after their latest defeat, Mourinho revealed his worries for some of his players.

"My only doubt was the way they can cope with the negative moments that come sooner or later. I feel that some individuals probably feel too much pressure and that responsibility."

"But from a collective point of view, I only have good things to say about them. If you analyse our three defeats in the last week, we were always the best team in the second half. We didn’t start well today but then in the second half the players showed quality, intensity, desire, commitment and ambition. And we lost again in our best moment."

In relation to the head injury sustained by Anthony Martial, Mourinho said he was unaware of the nature of the injury.

"You are asking me things that I can’t tell you because I don’t know why he came off, if he was injured in his knee, in the ankle or his head.  I promise you that I don’t know. I just know that in that moment he’s not in condition to carry on in the game."

United's next shot at redemption falls against stiff opposition next weekend, when they face reigning Premier League champions Leicester.
