John Giles' verdict on the Champions League final

On Saturday night, Real Madrid and Juventus will do battle in the 2017 Champions League final.

Speaking to Off The Ball, Ireland and Leeds legend John Giles gave his take on what is expected to be an evenly balanced clash between a star studded Real and one of the best units in Europe.

"I think it will be a great game, a great contest. There's no odds on favourites in this" said Giles

"Actually it's the total opposite. I would say about Juventus, I wouldn't back against them. I think Madrid on the day - and it has to be on the day - sometimes this season it hasn't been their day. They haven't been consistent in their performance.

"Their performance against Atletico in the first leg was absolutely brilliant. Second leg was poor and their season has been mixed all season, whereas Juventus there has been a consistency about them, mainly because the defenders and the goalkeeper are absolutely brilliant. They're not going to give much away. Madrid are going to have to do it and in my experience playing football, any club that used to have the defenders against the attackers in training, the attackers never won. It was always the defenders because they wouldn't let anything in. And as we know, their defenders are brilliant and they have one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

"They don't give much away. But unlike a lot of other teams, they've got a bit up front as well."
