'It was a torture' - John Giles on his early Leeds form

John Giles has opened up about the amount of time it takes to settle in when switching clubs.

Discussing Adam Lallana's process of integration at Liverpool after moving from Southampton, John discussed his own moves from Man United to Leeds, and then from the Yorkshire club to West Brom on Off The Ball tonight.

"It's not the pressure of playing, it's the whole move. Moving house, moving the kids, moving schools...all those various things that people don't take into consideration. It took me a while to get a house in Leeds. I had to travel every day because I was getting a house and then it fell through. It was three or four months before I moved to Leeds permanently and that didn't help. It upsets your routine," said John, who also spoke about the difficulty of adapting to a new style of play after moving from Man United to Leeds.

"It was terrible, it was a torture," he added of those early teething problems at Leeds which seeped into his form on the pitch.

Having watched Liverpool's win over Swansea, John also feels the Reds have improved. But he thinks their "defensive frailities have not gone away".

But he also believes a Top Four place is not out of the question based on the inconsistencies of the team's around them.

John also questioned Brendan Rodgers' decision to bring in Mario Balotelli despite knowing that the Italian striker does not suit the pressing system, while he expects Steven Gerrard to replace Lucas in the team that beat Swansea.

After speculation about Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini taking on a player-coach role earlier today, John also spoke about his own experience of being a player-manager at West Brom and with the Ireland national team.

He also talked about the identity of the next Baggies head coach and is critical of the way chairman Jeremy Peace is running the club in terms of not giving managers full control of transfers.

John also believes Everton and Ireland full-back Seamus Coleman would be a "huge gain for Man United if they could get him."
